Lost my key and fob. Never had a spare.
Have turned the house upside down and no sign of it.

This is going to cost megabucks, isn't it?

First off - are lost keys covered under your insurance?

    I don't know.
I'll check the policy tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I'm not insured against my own stupidity though.

I wouldn't be so sure! Do you have comprehensive cover?

Go to http://www.lmgtfy.com, type in the question and it'll produce a link.

    I do.
Had to read the policy recently for windscreen replacement and didn't notice anything about keys. But then, I wasn't looking for that then.

That's not going to work on a car with an immobiliser, which your SAAB definitely does. First thing tomorrow, call your insurance to see whether your keys are covered. If not, call a SAAB dealer for a price for starters and then start looking for recommendations for other cos who make replacement keys. There are a few around, but I can't remember the names of any of them.

theres a crowd called brown brothers in dublin who cut car keys from the key code (which should be in your cars documentation somewhere, or your dealer can supply it if not)

they will take credit cards over the phone and post your car key to your house, though depending on how trustworthy your postman is, that may not be a great idea.

you will still have to get the key coded by a dealer, but at least you got the key slightly cheaper.

    right then ....option no.2

know any breakers in you area? this is of course if your insurance dont cover and all the rest of it etc etc etc. a good breaker, will have a set of keys, guaranteed. once your in, you can sort out the imobiliser. Just a though from lil ol' me :)

Think you may have to get car towed into saab dealer and they will have to plug into their computer and will have to order a new key, i have a 2005 saab, the chunky key. Each one is unique to each car.

I think this applies to your car

Here is a how-to guide if you lose your key for Saab

The instructions swe_fi posted are for the older TWICE system. The NG 9-3 seem to use system called CIM and there is some info here (suggests all the system has to be changed if both keys are lost):

In the OG 9-3/9-5 used parts can be married with another car. Might be worth finding out if that is still the case with CIM.

    Good luck OP!

Edit: Here's a megathread about all things CIM:
