Customs and legal highs

    Hi There,

    I was just curious if something like a legal high from the UK (ordered online or something) is caught in customs going to Ireland what repercussions would their be?

    Once they are actually legal in both countries then i don't know if there would be any real legal issue.

    However if you import a load of clear plastic bags with some green herb and white powder in them. I would expect them to be seized and tested and then a knock on your door and a trip to the local Garda Station to ascertain what they are and what you're at.

    well i didnt mean a whole shipment or something lol, I mean like a small packet of herbal essence that would fit in an envelope, not bags and bags of stuff lol.

    Probably very similar to what foinse said.

    A small (very small) amount may just be confiscated, but anything else may be reported to the Gardai for further investigation.

    Why don't you test it, and let us know?

    If we don't hear from you again, we'll know that customs did their job and the Gardai followed up. :rolleyes:

    Why would it be confiscated or reported to the Gardai if its not illegal? or is it illegal to import herbs etc?

    AFAIK it is illegal to sell them for human consumption.

    They have no known effect on the brain, rather they are muscle relaxants. As such they wouldn't fall under the Criminal Justice (Psychoactive Substances) Act per se.

    I'd imagine they're legislated against elsewhere though.


    BTW: this thread/forum does not exist so that you can find out how to get high legally.

    Well actually im not trying to do anything legally in that way, i dont touch the stuff. I was merely curious as the conversation came up in the pub last weekend and to be honest none of use were 100% sure of anything We just thought what everything was vague.

    As for poppers....dont a lot of gay people use it? (im not trying to be offensive too anyone by saying that).
