I know most of ye wouldnt touch them with a bargepole but i'm looking for something to get me through the year without having to put much money into it

2.5k is all ive got unfortunately (car was wrote off last week and waiting for insurance to pay out)

    thanks,
    Tom

The suffer from stretched timing chains(poor running, MIL light on), sticking rear brake calipers and dodgy window regulators but other then that there is nothing to look out for that wouldn't be true of any second hand car.

    thanks nissan doctor,

so if you were in my shoes, would it be a hit/miss basically?

id like an almera of the same year but fancy the bit of comfort of the bigger car a bit now. i like the dash in the primera

If the car was in decent condition I'd buy one, there are a few rough ones out there though so try to have it checked out by someone if your not certain yourself.

Avoid 1.6 engine, as it's way underpowered for such a big car.
Both 1.6 and 1.8 petrol engines like to burn oil. (not really a problem but you need to remember about it and check it regularry).
1.9 diesiel is renault engine and I wouldn't recommend it.
Pretty much only reasonable option is 2.0 petrol, which is very good engine.
Besides car seems to be pretty problemless.
