Im thinking of buying the new 2WD Freelander 2 but am a little apprehensive / worried about how I might fair with parking in multistories in Dublin city centre. Has anyone experience of this e.g. easiness with which it can manouvre around the tighter bends to ascend / decent ramps, its ability to manouvre into 'tight' spaces, its height! I welcome your experiences.......is there anywhere that I should avoid in terms of parking!!??

If you can drive properly there'll be no issue :)
A Freelander is not a very big vehicle. I parked cars / vans for a living years back, they are all adequately maneuverable for parking. Although I do remember folks with big yokes (S classes and 7 series) watch in horror as I got them their car out of spaces that they reckoned were blocked in.

If it was a Range Rover or similar you might fine some tighter exits and entrances a challenge but there would still be enough room even at that.

Its only 1.7 mtrs high. Car parks are normally 2mtrs high.

Its only 4,5m long and only 2,2m wide

In Comparison the Mondeo is 4,8m long and 1.8mtr wide. The mondeo is 1.5m high.

It's not a big difference really. Its not going to be an issue unless somebody else parks like an asshole which, btw, is very common.

    Shocked there's a 2wd 150 Freelander 2!

More shocked that the 4wd is coming standard auto and even more shocked that they charge nearly 2k more for the manual! How tides have changed...

The Freelander is a nice light car to drive, easy to park and maneuver. If worst comes to worst use the money you're saving not buying the 4wd to invest in park assist.

That pretty much sums it up.

OP, take one for a decent test drive and go in to a few car parks, if you come straight back out there is not charge in most of them I think.

Yeah, micras are kinda hard to turn at 5,000 feet. 747s on the other hand are a doddle.
Although if the micra were as full of hot air as you, it might have a chance of taking off.

Yes because he obviously meant it literally.. Sure he did his driving test in one...

I heard he blazed up to the test centre in a 4.0 v8 beemer, the tester basked in the coolness for a moment and said, "You're ok buddy, the license is in the post", and then sadly shouted after him as he wheelspinned away, "I'll give you HGV to if you give me a ride in that..."

A freelander 2wd what is the point??????

No bigger than the van I drive at the moment transit connect which I have parked in loads of multi story carparks.

Generally I go with if I am taller than the car 6ft then you are alright.

Why do you need a freelander if you're doing city driving/parking?

Surely that's not what is being debated here. Personal preference is unique.

Can't wait to see you on the news blocking the M50 the next time it snows

In answer to your question it should be easy to park it but your not inspiring confidence in me if you have to ask

Thanks guys....I did a test drive already but it didnt feature any multistories....I did do some parking in a regular car park and got on no problem. I might go again and see if I can hit town...some of the car parks that I use for work are a bit tight so hence my thread.... Whats a reasonable distance to take a car on a test drive for anyway?

Im going for a freelander 2, 2wd, as I need a bigger boot than I currently have and need something thats not going to bang off the ground in country roads..and going down inclines. I do a lot of country road driving in my spare time...but nothing that warrents a 4wd. The safety features of the Freelander are also appealing....

Would it be usual for garages to give you a car for a weekend to let you get a better feel for if it?

And no, I dont have kids and have no reason to do school runs!!!!:P

Is it new ? If it is they won't be selling many of them so they should be agreeable to you taking it for an afternoon minimally, explain your reason to them. Worth asking anyway, the dumb priest never got a parish my Mum used to say :)
