    Hi

My brother wanted some basic broadband and has his phone with E-Mobile, whatever package he's on he got the broadband free. He's totally computer illiterate so I said Id install it for him, the dongle didn't come with a disc and just said to plug it in and follow the on screen instructions, so I did .... but nothing happens.

Ive tried all 4 USB ports, my USB pen works fine and Vista does detect new hardware when I plug it in and installs the driver. However, that's all it does, the people who work in the store checked the dongle and said it was fine although they also said they didnt know how to install it  (how did they know it works then ?).

I know my way around computers but Im a bit lost on this one, does anyone with any experience with these devices have any tips ?.

When you plug it in, it's just like a USB drive. You run the installer from whatever drive appears.

It shows up as a USB pen and an SD card reader, but I cant open either volume ?.

Try it in another computer. If it doesn't work, possibly a dud modem.
