Anyone traveled central and south america - NZ & Oz with an iPhone4?
    is it worth it?
would a small 10" laptop be better suited?

Is iPhone4 not really new? Might take a while to hear reviews.

I travelled in those places with a laptop. And now I travel with a phone with WiFi and a laptop. It really depends on what you want it for. If it's to backup your photos, write emails and a blog I would say go for the laptop. If it's just to check Facebook and call on Skype, a phone is fine.

    A what?!

A netbook is a smaller version of a laptop with an 8 to 10" screen, basically it is a small portable computer designed for basic functions, lightweight and ideal for travelling. I travelled on a RTW ticket in 2010 which had over 50 hours of flying, and I found mine great for just watching films and stuff in the plane and music with itunes.

I have the Samsung NC110 and find it a nice tidy little machine and it does what it says on the tin, a netbook!
