Lads, any advice on a going rate in Dublin for a VW Golf 1.4 litre service?

About €200 for a basic service if nothing out of the ordinary is needed. ie you only need oil, filter, air filter, and plugs.

My wife just got charged €290! Would ye consider this taking advantage?
    €210 annual service + €30(engine oil) + €3.80(oil filter) + €11(throttle cleaner) + VAT.

Its a garage I normally use for my audi and I don't think I even get charged that total for my annual service and I'd be doing 15k in miles every year whereas my wife has only 5k on the clock since her last service (need to check my old receipts)

It's a bit expensive. If it's a main dealer then it's not ridiculous but I paid €199 recently for oil, filter, air filter, air con filter and plugs on a 2006 2.0L turbo golf GTi. That's in a VW main dealer but it's a pretty good deal in fairness.

Thanks - they'll be getting a call from me tomorrow. I've been getting cars serviced by this crowd for 8 years and he was always much cheaper than the main dealers.

I'd ask them what the €210 included first. If it didn't include oil then maybe you needed something else done.

If yours is the standard 1.4 16v then we charge €129 for a full service and vehicle inspection.

The exact price would depend on the milage your car has and what other milage based requirements it has.

The car has 60,000 kms on it so it was due an oil change. I rang today but the boss is away on holidays and was told to ring back next week to talk to him. There was nothing else done/changed other than a "standard" service.

As a matter of interest, where was this, as I have a 06 that needs a service? Also in the Dun Laoghaire area..
    Thanks

Have to admit if I had Redmans recommendation prior to the wife heading to the garage last week then I'd have been going that route. I'm fairly unhappy with the way this went with my current garage and will definitely shop around for my own cars service when its due in March/April.

Foster Motors currently doing a full service and full vehicle check for €199 on a 1.6 - might be cheaper for a 1.4.
