Does anyone know who Dan Donovan is or was,as the tunnell which brings the Kilmeaden railway line under the N25 Waterford bypass is named after him.

I think he was one of the main people who helped set up the Waterford & Suir Valley Railway.

My guess is he was involved in the re-starting of the railway, according to their website he was Former Permanent Way Superintendent

Dan is a retired CIE employee who worked on mainline and DART and LUAS line laying, from Co Wexford, who has worked with WSVR for the last number of years imparting his huge knowledge of how to lay tracks etc. Without his skills and patience there would be very little track laid and probably not laid very well.
He oversaw all the work in laying all the track with a good dedicated crew, and still works occasionally when more track or points are being laid, as he is at this moment laying a set of points into their new engine shed.
