    Hi folks.

I'm planning on upgrading my friends laptop from Vista to Windows 7. I've done this before several times on other machines. However her internal dvd does not work. I have an external usb DVD drive which I'm planning on using to perform the upgrade.
Will this work ok? Will Windows recognise the external drive upon boot up during the upgrade?

It depends on whether the laptop itself can detect and boot from the external DVD drive when the computer is turned on. Most modern-day computers can do just that. The laptop may have a boot selection menu that you can enter to boot straight from the DVD drive, or you might have to change the boot order in the laptop's BIOS in order to do so.

Once you've gotten the Windows 7 installation started then everything should be fine. :)

I'll check the boot order before I start. Thanks.
