I'm looking to buy a used car and was looking at Opel Astras until someone told me there is a common problem with the ECU in these cars i.e. it often has to be replaced. Is this correct or is this an exaggeration??

Cheers in advance to any replies.

What year are you referring to?
I've owned a 2003 Astra (since 2005) without ECU issues.

The next model (i.e. from 2004 on) has its ECU under the l/h wing and can be suffer from dirt ingress on some cars.

See - www.honestjohn.co.uk - for more details on any car's known faults.
