    Hi Folks,

After an unfortunate incident with Black Ice, a ditch and a telegraph pole yesterday on my way to work I'm now in the market for a 2nd hand car.

I had an old but trusty polo but my wife would like a slightly bigger car and since I have a long journey to work I was thinking of changing to a diesel and something in the low tax bracket. I have a budget of max 10k so any advice on what car I should go for? I know its a vague question but all help appreciated..

    Kev.

Try and make a wish list of features you want like air conditioning, cruise control, high driving position etc. Then figure out how big you wanna go. I'm guessing you're thinking of a golf size car?

I'd suggest a corolla 1.4 diesel, they came out in 2004 so you'd be talking €333 tax for pre 08 and €156 after.

An older one will give you nice change from 10k but If you're spending it all then you've got huge choice.

May as well get the obligitary octavia mention in, you'd be looking at 08 on for reasonable tax on the 1.9 tdi
