    Always wondered about the following:

Say when Jonathan Ross has a a musical act on the show (take, for example, Arctic Monkeys, doesn't really matter, completely arbitrary). Now, would the Arctic Monkeys get paid for their appearance (assuming that a big name would draw more viewers to the show itself) or would the Arctic Monkeys have to pay for the slot (considering a position on a prime-time TV show is an extremely lucrative advertising opportunity)?

Actually, the guest doesn't have to be musical, could apply to ,say, Ricky Gervais plugging a new sitcom or Gordon Ramsay just waffling on.

Anyone know anything with regard to this?

I believe that they do get paid yes.

They certainly don't pay the show.

Obviously there are some cases where guests would turn down a fee or donate it to a cause they are promoting on the show.
