Is 2pm the last bus out of Dublin to Claremorris? (Bus Eireann). Daughter wants to visit friends this weekend and that's the only bus I can find. She was told the train is standing room only.

Down Friday evening back Sunday evening, any other way of getting there?

get a citylink bus to galway http://www.citylinkonlinesales.ie/JPlannerServlet?mn=1&op=6

then a CIE bus galway to claremorris. its a roundabout way but may suit you better.

the citylink bus stop is just around the corner from the galway train station where all the CIE buses leave.

That 2pm train is usually jammed with Students heading home for the weekend, but seeing as they are not back for another week or two it might not be that busy.

Why not book the train online and reserve a seat in the process which as far as I know there's no extra charge for doing?

Looks like €48 return on the train.

They just organised a lift, so much for trying to help them. Thanks for the input.

Agree with Irishgeo, if you get the direct Citylink bus to Galway and time it well, you could be in Claremorris within 4 hours of leaving Dublin, for about half the price of the train!

Also, booking citylink online saves a lot, and a 20% discount if you register as a student!
