Why Is Walking Down Cannon Street in Waterfod Naked A Criminal Offence?

We have come to stigmatise human sexual organs to the point where we have become disenchanted with our past. Are you all not mammal enough to flash your bits? How can freedom of expression be so limited as to not express yourself where and when you want?

Somethings wrong in this place. I think more naked people in our streets would brighten the place up to be honest. Nudists have many benefits to society.

There has to be a Spire joke in here, but I'll be damned if I can think of a decent one.

It should be a criminal offence to walk around in a pair of pyjamas.

We should have areas designated for nudists. If I want to whip off all my clothes and strut my stuff then by god why am I being criminalised for such a healthy and natural thing?!

We pretty much do. There are various beaches where it is tolerated. Let's hope there is no wireless access to give us a break from your obsession with sex and nudity however. Ironic really.

It's better as it is.. In fairness, if you seen tits and ass everyday, scoring just wouldn't be the same.

It's too fucking cold to be walkin' round in the nip.

I agree but it's still not a reason to make it a criminal offence.

BY making it an offence we have stigmatised it.

No point, nobody would notice me beside the pillars of the GPO.

Could make chuggers kind of uncomfortable though.

Wait a second, fúcking brainstorm here! Naked charity workers, I'd donate!

But some things need to be stigmatised.

Little kids dont want to see hairy bollox, veiny mickeys, hairy marys and grannys norks.

    And neither do I !

The law in relation to public nudity in this country is such that it can be an offence, both under statute and at common law, for a man or a woman to expose himself or herself in a public place, including private lands seen from a public place.

However, it's not always strictly a criminal offense & can often rely on the judge's interepretation of the law & the circumstances involved, should a person be brought to court for it,

Because people are so childish you'd swear they'd never seen somebody naked before.
Why is it childish? That line gets thrown out in relation to nudity way too easily. And you'd swear all naked bodies look the same, whereas they are in a variety of shapes/sizes/conditions.
In before the "We Irish are a nation of repressed prudes" despite all the sex threads here...

Just found a list of nude places in Ireland where its alright to bear all.

    Leinster:
    • Brittas Bay,
    • Corballis,
    • Curracloe and
    • Dalkey - Vico Road.
    Munster:
    • Clonakilty Bay,
    • Inch,
    • Inchidonney and
    • Long Strand.
    Connacht:
    • Achill Island - Trawmore,
    • Bartraw,
    • Roundstone - Dog's Bay,
    • Silver Strand,
    • Trawalua Strand and
    • Yellow Strand.
Anyone know these places?! Do they meet the standard?

You can be prosecuted for nudity even on those beaches.

In general, the Gardai aren't bothered, but it's still against the law.

But it's still a ridiculous law if the Gardai don't enforce it....much like having a small bit of cannabis on you.

I'd say the former's more likely than the latter :o Knowing Munster.

The laws are there to prevent obscene or indecent exposure.

The fact that they aren't enforced on so-called "nudist" beaches in Ireland, is probably because they are used by like minded adults who aren't there to cause any offence.

It is true though, that the Gardai often take a very "hands on" approach to enforcement of certain laws. Some would call it a "common sense" approach - as in relation to this one, or possession of lower class drugs for personal use - but sometimes, I think they can take it a bit too far.. I know of two people who were taken into custody for drink driving (well over the limit) but then released without charge, after pleading with the arresting officers.

Don't be so naive. If people were allowed to walk naked around the place do you really think it would end there?!

Furthermore, would you really want a world where everyone could do and say as they wish? Of course not!

It would be too confusing. If you were walking naked down the street and someone said "look at that big knob", you wouldn't know whether to bend over or run.

In order to walk down O'Connell St naked you have to get there first. Where do you keep your bus fare/car keys?
