UPC - initial installation of wall point

Just wondering how much it costs to have UPC installed? I don't just mean getting connected I mean having the initial point installed on the wall for service in a house that had no digital tv service before? Is this even possible?

I'd assume it's very expensive. Anybody know?

Reason I'm asking is that we have 3mb broadband with Eircom and they are refusing to up it as apparently our line can't handle higher than that but they won't upgrade the line either and none of the other broadband providers have decent coverage where we are so I'm looking into UPC as an alternative but obviously money is factor.

It used to cost €50 to get an installation but I think that fee is free nowadays especially if you take a tv and broadband bundle.

There tv packages is way inferior to sky in my opinion but it really does depend on what channels you watch.

UPC broadband is only available in areas that are served by cable at present ie.e in citys and large towns...

worth checking on their website to see whats available in your area..

The website says that digital tv is available but I would've thought to get the initial wall point installed would've costed a hell of a lot of money and definitely a lot more than 50euro.

I know the majority of new houses over the past few years when built have these installed but I live in a very old house in the middle of nowhere.

Website tells me broadband isn't available in my area but I would've thought that since everything comes through their cable and a phone line isn't needed that once you can get tv then you should be able to get broadband as well, no?

In the countryside UPC provide you with MMDS, it is an Aerial placed on your roof or premises somewhere and needs line of sight to be able to provide you with a signal. UPC will not use any internal cabling in your home unless it is of HIGH grade value eg....stamped with RG6 or CT100...they mostly run cables outdoors directly to the room required taking care to hide it where possible..

They are currently testing Broadband over MMDS but it has not been released as of yet as far as I know they were testing it in Killarney last yr and perhaps other parts of the country but thats as far as I know ...

You therefore will find it highly unlikely to be able to get UPC broadband if you are not in a city or large town..

I used to be an installer with them and €50 would cover all work carried out in your house, payable directly to UPC not to the installer on the day, but as I said earlier I think that fee is currently waivered ...

Thanks a million, that's exactly what I was looking for.
