Can anyone recommend a good bicycle maintenance book? Something that covers everything really, and that's fairly up-to-date.

This site seems really good: http://bicycletutor.com/# ...but I like books! :)

    Thanks.

I got a present of the Haynes publication The Bike Book: Complete Bicycle Maintenance. I've found it very helpful.

... and it has cross-generational appeal. My daughter took it out from under the table and had a good look this afternoon.

I have the parks tools book and I like it. It's pretty easy to understand and fairly comprehensive, otherwise I use Sheldon Brown on t'internet.

I do have both the Zinn books. They covered all my needs so far but looking at the Park book on Amazon, it looks more comprehensive.

All this talk made me order a Park Tools book Thursday evening, despite the fact pretty much everything is covered by bicycletutor.com (love that site) and Lennard Zinn.

The Big Blue Book arrived today. Loads of colourdy photos for me to look at :) As someone said to me this evening, if it saves one trip to the bike shop, it's paid for itself.

Yet another alternative, though a *lot* more money, is the Barnett Bicycle Institute manual for $140. It's a DVD rather than a book.

The blurb uses phrases like "ultimate bicycle mechanic's manual" and "most comprehensive resource ever" to justify that price tag. I'm not curious enough to be willing to pay out that much cash to find out whether the claims are justified though. However, you can download some of the chapters for free which may be useful in itself. I downloaded those some time back but only ever glanced through them. They do seem to have a lot of info in there but the way the info is presented didn't appeal to me so I found it a bit of a chore to read through them - that's very much a personal thing though so others might find them more accessible.
