Noisy Xbox

    Hey Guys,

Got my other half a new 250gb Xbox for Christmas - its definitely the new model, its Kinect Ready etc...

Its REALLY noisy?? Is this usual? He has the PS3 and no issues with it...
Also, the controller is battery powered?? I would've thought in this day and age you could power it using the console itself, using USB?

Not sure if its a problem, but one of his games froze last night - he had to eject it to get it working...

Did he get a dodgy box or is it just the adjustment from PS3 that he has to get used to (bar the game freezing issue)?

    Cheers :D

Xboxs are noisy all the time constant buzzing noise.
Regarding controls you can buy a battery pack you replace the old ones, that will charge via usb

cost 10-15 euro.Worth buying gamestop harvey normans etc

Install the games to the Hard Drive and it should be completely silent. If not then there's something wrong with it. The Slim console is not nearly as noisy as the old models though and should never be able to be described as REALLY noisy, only a slight amount ever comes from it even without the disc installed.

No, it shouldn't be. Mine is really quiet, just makes a little hum. Where's the noise coming from? My power brick buzzed loudly for a day or two for some reason, and then stopped. Is it the console itself making noise?

As said, you can buy a little rechargable battery pack that replaces the little battery casing on the back. You get a USB charger with it, and just plug it into your Xbox. It'll save you looooads of money on batteries

What game was it? It's not uncommon for a game to freeze up. Sometimes the game will freeze, and you can return to the Dashboard by pressing the Xbox button in the centre and pressing Y. Sometimes a game will lock-up a console, and you'll have to turn it off and on again. It should only be a rare thing, though. If it's a case that it freezes in the same spot over and over, then the game disc may be scratched, or the game may be really buggy. You could always try connecting to Xbox LIVE and downloading the latest patch; simply play the game and you'll be prompted to download the latest patch

Oh yeah, that too! Insert the disc, go to it on the Dashboard ("My Xbox" channel) and press Y ("Game Details"). Then install to hard-drive

I picked up a new 250GB model too and it makes a low whirring noise. Much quieter than my bro's Elite model.

    Yep.

EDIT: You can pick up a play-and-charge kit. But looking at the reviews of the official MS one on amazon I'd pick up a couple of rechargable AA's! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Play-Charge-Kit-Black-Xbox/dp/B003VD56K2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1294246621&sr=1-1)

I'd send it back as it's probably still under warranty. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't return it because one game has frozen... If it happens more with other games, then definitely take it back, or if the same game keeps freezing, get a replacement game...

As for the play & charge kit, don't mind the negative reviews on Amazon above. One is complaining about the item not arriving and the other is a ****wit. I'd heartily recommend the play and charge kit

The dvd drive is a bit noisy if running games :) but once you install it to the HDD it goes quiet :) will save your destroying your game if the console moves somehow too :P cant complain though compared to the old ones :)

Either way you wont hear a thing when your jumping around the kinect :D

mine also make a humming noise (like a fan) its louder than my old xbox arcade!
Also if you go to gamestop or the likes you can sometimes pick up second hand plug and play kits for nect to nothing.
I got one for 5euro in games stop.

Give you a laugh - our Xbox was REALLY loud and I complained to shop and Xbox help = then we put box down flat and it was fine (it obviously should not have been upright)

My xbox sounded like a drill going through a wall any time i put a dvd in. What is it with the dvd drive that makes it so loud?
