Was thinking of buying one of these. saw 1 today for 4,500 euro and 123,000 km on the track. R they a solid car to have? Any positive/negative experiences of them r greatly appreciated. thanks

if your talking about the new model 06 ('corsa d') then id stay well away.

we have one at home, its been recalled 3 times for different problems with the brakes, fitted with 2 new clutches and a flywheel, had a new seatbelt pre=tensioner and sunroof motor. and its only done 30,000 kms.

If it is the 1.0 litre version then it is the older model Corsa. I would avoid the 1.0 litre, not a great engine and very rough. 1.2 litre is more more reliable and refined.

OP, if you can stretch your budget I would go for something like this, newer and better model than the old one:

Those 1.0 litre 3 Cylinder Corsa Engines d'ont have the best reputation for longivity.

The major weak point is the Timing Chain which wears & rattles.....and its an engine out job to fix and quite an involved job to do at that. And if the Timing chain does go bang, you won't find a 2nd hand engine anywhere as they are in demand. And the timing chain doesn't rattle due to lack of maintenance. I know of a 1.0 corsa that has 48K on the clock, is fastidiously maintained & the car sounds like a diesel!

It you go to look at the car & if the engine sounds like a diesel then run away!

As already said, go for the 1.2 litre instead.

The chain, tensioner, guides etc are all identical on the 1.2 16v and the 1.2 12v. They are both identical engines in every way apart from the 1.0 having 1 cylinder less. The main reason for noisy chains on them is the spring in the tensioner failing. Its a big enough job to change them but it certainly isn't an engine out job, there couldn't be any more room in the engine bay for working on it.

Both engines have trouble making it past 160,000 kms without major issues.

If you get a 1.2 12v ibiza they suffer pretty much the same troubles as the opel engines above. Try to go for a 4 cylinder ibiza if you want one of them.

My money would be on a Fiesta or Yaris in this segment.
