I regard the NCT test at 50 euro as being the best value scan you can get.
    then sort the problems shown.

I had this very conversation with my housemate yesterday, her brother recently did the same thing and to my mind got royaly ripped off replacing parts that probably didn't need replacing

    +1
Any pre-NCT check will certainly reveal that you need new brake pads and discs, exhausts, shock absorbers, suspension bushings, etc...
Save yourself thousands, just bring it in for the NCT and fix only what needs doing.
Just make sure all the lights are working and the tires are legal.

    Pre-NCT = ABSOLUTE MADNESS

Use the actual NCT as your pre-NCT. Then fix what they say need fixing, not what a garage *THINKS* needs fixing.

Think of the NCT as going into an college exam knowing absolutely nothing and chancing your arm at the questions. If you fail, bring home the test paper, learn the answers and go back for a re-test.:)

Can anyone tell me where I can get a NCT wash (underbody etc) around Dublin city centre or Northside along Malahide Road?

    Thanks

unless you've been off roading, and all the underside is covered in mud, then this is over kill. I have never found a place with an underbody wash, I used to power wash into the wheel archs but gave it up years ago and never had a comment since.

Section 13.3 of their wesbite says that you must ensure that the vehicle is reasonably clean (especially the under body). Wonder if most people just don't bother for the NCT.

Im actually in Dublin this week but its for the Notth MOT test on Saturday morning that I need a clean - thinking with the frost etc, I might not get a clean on Sat morning with frozen pipes. In the North, you will be turned away if you have not had the underbody hot powerwashed. My friend was last month.

Well, that's everywhere else in Europe, in Germany every E2 automatic carwash comes with underbody wash option.
I've been trying to find this in Ireland for the last (too many) years, I ask "does it do underbody wash?"
    Reply-blank stare.
    Repeat question
    Reply-grunt
I ask "Is that a yes or no?"
    Reply-grunt
I buy ticket in good faith because it actually says "underbody wash" on the sign.
Wash finished-underbody as filthy as ever.
Go back into garage "The underbody wash doesn't work"
Reply (suddenly coherent) "Oh no, that hasn't worked in ages, we're waiting for the guy to come back with parts"
Me: "But I paid extra for that because I was looking for specifically that, it was the reason I chose your carwash"
Reply: grunt/blank stare, all language abilities lost again.
Me-give up and wash car at home and never darken door of car wash places again.
Proper bread and underbody car wash- two things I have not seen to exist in Ireland since I came here in 1994, just a completely alien concept, you might as well walk into the shop and say "Hello, my name is Urglfoghgagh and I'm from the planet Zrbtjfjdjud, take me to your leader"
In fact you'd probably get a more coherent response to that because that sentence will make more sense to the guy behind the counter than "Do you do underbody car washes?"
