Black Ops game disc not working

Hi All,

my copy of Black Ops has stopped working.

ive tried using it on two different ps3's and both recognise the game disc on the XMB menu ... but when you start the game all i get is a black screen and nothing else ... cant access the XMB menu and the only option is to eject the disc or turn off the console.

I got a friends copy of the game and it worked perfectly .. but my copy has stopped?

has this happened to anyone else?

I think Activision does offer a disc replacement service, but I believe they charge for this?

also the game disc is lightly scratched ... but it didnt affect it from working

How old is the disc?, Have you still the receipt? This happened me before with Killzone 2, had it about a fortnight, went back into shop with receipt and they changed it no hass. I always keep the receipt for a game in the box with it, you just never know when you may need it.

have the game since launch day..

there are a couple of light scratches on it ... but they dont look deep enough to stop the game disc from being read.

going to bring it back to HMV and see how i get on ...

tried bringing it back to HMV ... wouldnt take it back or swap replace it for me, still have the origianal receipt.

so headed over to Game and got 35euro credit for trade in ...

so will use that towards a new game .. like Killzone 3 or Deus Ex 3

exactly ....

was reading on the offical forums and there are others that are having the same problem with the game discs ....

it appears the discs are quite sensitive and even the lightest of scratches can ruin them .....

not like the good old days of the PS1/PS2 games which could be used as frisbee's and still worked ....

That's odd, Blu ray's are coated in anti scratch material. I find it is actually very difficult to scratch any blu ray short of taking a screw to it or something.

All my games and movies are in perfect condition and they have even been left out of there boxes and left around for a few days.

I'm just guessign unfortunately you got a bad disc. But if there is a bit of a pattern to the discs breaking you could have brought this up with the store and they would have had to refunded you because it would be a known manufacturing fault. I'm guessing you gave up when the clerk told you no? Always ask for a manager in those situations

Happened my mate twice with Black Op's... Just leave it back and get another copy (thats what he done)

just one last thing to add..

after my scratched disc failed to work..basically i would start the game and just get a black screen ... only option was to eject the disc or turn off the ps3

i got a loan of my mates disc and this worked perfect, i then tried the scratched disc in the same ps3 and it would work ... but when the games started freezing during gameplay ... the scratched disc would not work again ...
