Can anybody reccommend somewhere good in Dublin to get my wheels alligned. I'd like somewhere that isn't going to make a mess of it :)

Dave McCann in blanch did my E39 - he was recommended for 4-wheel alignment for bimmers.
Got the Audi 4 wheel aligned in atlas in Sandyford - very decent crowd - seemed to know what they were talking about and good to deal with.

I wonder do they deal with raised toe on vw/audis that require this to be set?
Ive yet to come across a garage who would check this.

Is it the camber your thinking of? Some VAGS have to be raised to set this.

    Nope.

Typically, front camber can only be balanced from side to side on these by moving the subframe obviously with the car raised.
Some of the vws have this raised toe setting where the car must be raised approx 60mm ( i think) from its resting height with wheels still remaining on the ground. The main dealers equipment has special fittings to facilitate this.
Toe is then checked at this height and any variations are adjusted out in a different manner (not at the track rod).
It is essentially a bump steer test and it only applies to certain models. I believe the 2001 > A4 is one of them.
I do know that some tyre centres have told people that there cars are bent and cannot be aligned simple because they didnt know what they were doing.

Tyreland in Glasneven will do it for €50, it's quick and there's no real queuing.

On some VAGS such as older Polo's, MK3 golfs etc the camber has to be set with the front wheels off the ground by adjusting the angle where the shock bolts to the hub.

With regards to the means of setting the toe you mention, If the person using them knows what they are at, then the latest 4 wheel alignment machines have settings into which you enter certain measurments(ride height at certain points etc) and its calculates the correction factor to compensate for not raising the car. The machine we have also has the facility to set the toe with the car raised to certain measurments too.

    Ya, thats true.

Thats good. Ive seen technicians though continually attempt to to adjust the length of the track rod when working at the different ride heights and this will not offer the full solution, maybe they will get a best avaerage but that is not the correct setting.
