Hi im thinking of applying for my J1 visa for summer 2011.
Im planning on staying in texas with a friend that i have met in university and her family.
And i am applying for summer camps that are close to her home town.
So banking on that i get accepted into one of these camps i am wondering because i am in university in Wales but i am from Ireland and have an irish passport does this mean that I can still apply for the J1? or do i have to be at university in Ireland to apply?

My understanding with most summer camps is that you are required to live on-site to supervise the children. Remember that in Texas people's definition of 'near' is different to Ireland and if you are living with your friend you would be dependent on them for transport.

You shouldn't have a problem, as USIT explain here:

Eligibility: "Irish, Northern Ireland, UK Nationals studying in Great Britain".

I don't know about anyone else but I find that USIT have the best FAQ on the J1 visa.

She has been working in the same summer camp and a few others for which i am applying for and it does not require you to stay over. Its not that far away either cos i looked it up and she used to walk to it also :)
