just lookimg for oppinons on this as i think it should go.

its a 1.9TDi DSG taxi with 190K odd miles but has had a lot of replacement work done in the last while.

in the last year off the top of my head
    brand new turbo
new front control arms and assorted bushings and bits
    new back box
new drivers light [old 1 was leaking]
    new disks and pads allround
new rear drop links and bushings
    new factory radio
    paint touch up
and lots of other small jobs

now it has developed an issue with the diff and or gearbox and tonight the alternator packed up.

the owener is not in a posistion to realy buy a new car right now.
i have been trying to tell them that its a better idea to be rid of the car as its costing more to keep on the road then its worth.

i would say with its milage and bein a taxi its worth 2K maybe €2500 privetly and feck all if traded in

Definitely get rid of IMO as the DSG gearbox is a very expensive fix if it gives up.
I have heard of a few Casualty cases in the Past.
A new gearbox (worse case scenario) or a recon unit and fitting etc could cost more than what the cars worth...

Bit disheartening for him but have a read of this:

If he has a few thousand to invest in a replacement (non DSG) he may well be better off to do so, the Octavia at 190K miles may well be beyond putting in trouble free work now as a taxi, shame though after the recent work done to it. Hard to see someone paying €2000 for a high mileage ex taxi with DSG probs though.

would he break the car? could probably sell stuff like seats easily enough to other taxi drivers? or sell it to the likes of traynors and let them break it.

well there going to look at a 07 Altea XL this weekend
not shure if its the 1.9 or 2L TDi its a DSG aswell but has 60k miles, its up for 14K

if the deler wont take the octavia as trade there looking at advertiseing it for arount the €2,250 and see what offers come in,or as said seeing what its worth as scrap.

if the box was fixed would it be worth anymore ? i wouldant think it would TBH

If the box could be fixed at a reasonable price it should be good for another 40-50k miles. Would be a lot cheaper than a newer car given the work thats been done to it already.

    Big if though:o

An 05 with a working DSG box is defo worth more than one with a stuffed DSG box, regardless of the miles on it.

Well if the car is going to the scrap heap anyway then why not
