    Hi all,

    Was just thinking today,

With so many Races coming up this year Between Triathlon, Duathlon, Adventure
X Country and Road races, what makes you decide on one,

    1 Because its local
    2 The Distance (5k, 10k,HM, Sprint etc)
    3 Value for money
    4 Word of mouth
    5 Date, time of year

Where does the above fit in to making a successful race ?

I have a policy of not really travelling to races, unless it's a bigger event, i.e. an A race. So priority would be:

    1 Because its local
    2 The Distance (5k, 10k,HM, Sprint etc)
    5 Date, time of year
    3 Value for money
    4 Word of mouth

usually I will pick a couple of Goal races for the year. These will be based on the distance, location, time of year, word of mouth, all of the above really. I will try to fit other races in around the training plans for these races then with the exception of a coupl eof races that I would always try for because they are local or the atmospohere previous years is excellent.

Its a good race. Its accurately measured. Get a shower after it. Cuppa. It aint a rip off. If getting a shirt it aint a cotton one.
    Would travel.
Price within reason. Wont pay over 40 for a half or 10 miler and 20 for 10k is enough unless its a charity.
I have my races picked out for 2011 so I probaly base it on experience.
Will give the clonmel half a second chance.

Proper timing, no mickey mouse business that has happened at a number of events and one in particular where the race organisers quickly hot footed it out of there. They had little explanation only to "check the website" and that they would post out any medals.
Local races with some of the proceeds put back into the community with good post race activities (ahem food) is a must.

I'd certainly avoid ones I knew were badly organised or had some vauge idea of bad press about them from previous years.

Last couple of races I did though I only seemed to decide to do them the day or two before, but was confident of their quality, location, distance critera being OK from knowing that other club members were doing them at the same time and taking that as a fair assesment of "decent'ness".

Just about to put in an entry for a half in September, main reason being the sister in law saying she entered it so have figured I can make a race of it and get to see the kids as well. Another race I was entered into yesterday, becasue it's free as the club is paying, I just have to turn up and run.

So my critera vary wildly, but I'll not be entering Cardiff half due to their reportedly dodgy course measuring last year.
