Just bought a 01 Nissan Primera for e950..
thought its great deal as it look great and just 85k mile on clock. But now Im a bit regret as it seems will cost me more...

I just found sth wrong abt da car up to now..
-The speedometer is not working(the tachometer is working tho...)
-battery seems needed to be changed...
-The accelerator is a bit sticky (da seller said cuz is not been used for long)

Da nct will be out in Feb...
Cud anyone advise me what to do next?
Go to have a full service or nct pre test or just go repair what i know wrong?(seller didn't know when its last serviced...)

How much wud possibly cost?(hope it wont be too dear):(
Anyone know any cheap garage in Dublin5/13?

    Thanks folks

    The speedometer is not working:eek:

Did you take it for a test drive?

Jesus, someone sticky this as a guide of what NOT to do when buying a used car.

OP, bring it to a mechanic and find out exactly what's wrong with it, then make an informed decision on what to do next.

Can you get a refund, was any promises made

In any case bring it to NCT center as its due, and let them tell you whats wrong

Ask Nissan dealer to calculate cost of fixing NCT failure, if it very high get rid of it. If price is resonabily ok then shop for second hand parts etc etc as required

accelerator can be sticky if not used for a while, that happened me with my old car

NCT can be done 3 months in advance so this is your best bet. Book it in, it will cost you only the test fee to find what needs doing to pass. DO NOT pay some garage to do a pre NCT test as most likely they will come up with many faults that may or may not exist or may be marginal items that are fine for NCT.
You were foolish in the way you went about buying this car but if you go about the repairs the right way, you could still get it on the road for reasonable money.

So get NCT test result, go to good independent garage with list of faults & find second hand parts where suitable.

Bringing a car of that age/cost to a main dealer is silly. Go to a good private garage

Or a friend who services his own cars if you really want to keep costs down, make sure he actually knows what he is doing though!

The speedo may not be a major job, it could just be a failed sensor but I'm not familiar with them to know for sure

no point in fixing something that does not need fixing to pass NCT. For the cost of NCT test they will tell you whats wrong. Wont have to worry about someone pulling a fast one on ya to milk you of money.

When you find out what is wrong get a quote from Nissan dealer, there have a reputation and will give their standard price for required work. Then you have a price for a back street guy to try and beat

Haggle with Nissan dealer too, people doing that now and it does work for larger work. It gives a price to work from, I know too many people being taken to the cleaners by private garages. I bring my car to private garage but I know the guy.

OP TXTSPK is frowned upon around these parts. Please don't use it, thanks :)

yes but for some work you have too, for example a new seat belt tensioner. Private garage could not do this for me as some kind of explosive gas or something that goes off in an accident. I needed it done myself for NCT, private garage did all the work except seat belt

In this case a main dealer may well not be required though, lest not confuse the chap unnecessarily :)

Well I was referred to the main dealer
