Rear shocks

    1998 Corolla 1.3L Liftback.

When checking rear wheels yesterday, I noticed that my rear shocks are a bit worse for wear with oil visibly leaking out of em etc. I was wondering what price should I pay for a pair? and any make better than another? Micksgarage has them for around 100 quid each which seems crazy to me, that's why I'm asking here.

Also I was thinking of fitting them myself, I may ask a local mechanic to reload/spring them as I don't have spring compressors and it's a bit dangerous.

Bear in mind it's a 98 Corolla so I am not looking for expensive parts. I would just appreciate it if you could give me a good make to go for and price.

    Many thanks

Guesstimate of about €35-€40 per side.

Yea that's what I was thinking, so why is micksgarage 100 quid a side?

Any particular make? Would my local autoparts be best to ask?

likewise, i was thinking 50 each, tops.

a set of spring compressors are only about 20-25 euro per set, it would be no harm to invest in a set and D.I.Y. it :D

Yea try your local factors, oil filled will be cheaper than gas so maybe price both.

Does a 98 corolla have springs around the shock on the rear?

These types of shocks are expensive I say 60 or 70 a piece.

I doubt you'd get them that (€35) cheap 50-60 maybe.

Genuine Toyota are probably only around 85 per side.
Worth ringing the Toyota garage in Macroom, they are selling off a load of stock, I think it was in donedeal.
