    Hi All

I'm looking to open up the kitchen and the living room and install a double set of doors.

I haven't contacted any builders yet and was wondering if anyone has any advise & or experience of what to do?

If someone could recommend a decent carpenter that will do the job in Cork it would be appreciated:)

    Thanks

Its a relatively simple enough job .

    Support surrounding ceiling

    Cut opening with con saw

fit head and rebuild above if needed.

    tidy and fit frame

plaster and hang the doors and fit architrave

    A day and a half maybe .

    small skip needed.

Is the wall you are taking out a load bearing wall in the house, if so you would need an engineer to specify a beam size.

    Thanks for the replies:

I dont think its a load bearing wall so that should make life easier.

The job seems straight forward in theory :D

What about sliding or folding doors. Would it be much extra work and cost compared to standard doors?

Thats an assumption that could cost you dearly.

Let me be clear, this is not a DIY job. You really should get an engineer or technician to have a look at this before proceeding.

Ya good advice, better safe than sorry. There is a good chance it is load bearing as most are. Best double check before anything is done

The wall is only a partition type wall. I'll be getting a builder to do the job but I want an idea what’s involved before I start getting quotes.
