Outlook 2007 - Not Responding

    Hi all,

I'm running MS Outlook 2007 on Win 7 and syncing with Google Apps Sync and have been doing so happily for almost 2 years.

Over the last few days Outlook has started "Not Rsponding" every time I switch between Mail, Contacts or Calendar and also within mail e.g. if I go to open a different folder. The "Not Responding" status only lasts 3-4 seconds each time but it's very annoying and I know it could lead to a bigger problem down the road if I don't do something about it.

The Google Sync Mailbox Size Limit is set to 1GB which is the smallest/fastest setting but the Outlook PST file itself is 3.7GB which I know is large.

I've been searching all over the web and it seems PST files over 2GB are troublesome so I'm well over the safety threshold and this probably explains the problem I'm having.

I tried to turn on Auto Archiving but the option doesn't seem to exist in my version of Outlook (2007 SP2 MSO). There is supposed to be an "AutoArchive" option in Tools -> Options -> Other but it simply doesn't exist in my version.

Am I doing something really dopey or am I missing something really obvious?

I'm sure if I can manage to turn on AutoArchiving it will solve my problem, I never thought it would be this difficult though!!

Appreciate any pointers you can give me.

    Ben

When you open outlook, immediately put it into offline mode (file-work offline)
try and delete first anything you dont need. Empty trash etc. Perhaps sort mails by size and look for those hilarious video clips your mates sent you, delete them or save them locally.
    Retry the archiving option.

If you are still having problems, create a new pst file and set it as default mail location. You can then open outlook, new mail will come into this new pst. You can then try moving some of the mail from old pst to new one, or continue deleting/archiving till it is a more manageable size.

Uninstalling this patch has restored the auto-archive function for me under Tools > Options > Other

Microsoft have admitted there are a number of performance issues they are looking into...

    Homer,

You're the man as they say!! Uninstalled that update and she's back flying again. The Archive function is also restored so I've set it up to auto archive every 28 days which I'm sure will either speed Outlook up further and/or prevent slow downs in future due to the PST file becoming too big.

    I LOVE BOARDS!!!!!
