Waiting after an interview

I was at a job interview at the end of November, was called for a second interview just a couple of days before xmas. I was told there was 8 candidates left for 4 positions. They told me they had to reschedule interviews due to the weather and that they'd not be interviewing them until after the new year and to please bear with them.

Now I've been offered a job with another company, to start on Monday, however I'd much rather the other job. Do you think it's fine for me to email and ask if a decision will be made by the end of the week, as I have been offered another job, but that my preference would be them?

Both jobs are in the UK, so starting one while waiting to hear from the other employer isn't an option.

If they haven't scheduled the 2nd interview yet, much less done then, then IMHO there's zip chance they'll decide this week.

IMHO: accept job B. If job A comes thru in a few weeks, tell job B that you decided it's not for you after all, and start job A.

A bird in the hand and all.

The only exception would be if the company at job B is very influential in the industry.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I should have worded it better, I have been to the second interview just before xmas. I guess I'll just have to take job A, maybe stay in a Hotel for the first week, by then I should get a reply, rather than getting settled in.

You should definitely email them imo (just be careful with your wording that they don't read it as putting a gun to their head), if the company want you they will be delighted to be given the opportunity to get you, if you're not getting the job they should have no problem with letting you know.

One job in the bag and possibly another, 2011 is looking up for somebody, well done and good luck!
