    your first offence ,
or the first time you were caught and prosecuted and found guilty ?

TBH it sounds a little excessive, unless there is other stuff you aren't telling us about, like dangerous driving

They will only ban you if you are well in excess of the speed limit or driving dangerously other than thats its 2 points and an €80 fine.

A lot depends on the judge..

go on, how fast were you going?

"speeding" is not ban-able afaik, because above a certain speed I believe it is considered careless or dangerous or something... which are ban-able...

Get a solicitor to lodge an appeal asap. Judge must have been very cranky - I thought Neilan had retired....

hmmm that does sound a bit excessive for those speeds! it wasn't past a school or something, was it?

Years ago I received a 1 month ban for driving at 104mph on a 60mph road. I thought the ban was lenient. Don't speed anymore. Do you mind me asking what speed you were driving at?

Twice the legal limit ...... I wouldn't be looking for advise from randomers on the inter web .... Get proper legal advise ... It will cost you but it's you only option

Appeal to the Circuit Court on sentence only. Do it immediately as if you lodge the appeal within 10 days the ban is stayed pending appeal.

Some District Court judges give harsh sentences for speeding, that's why there is an appeal to the Circuit Court.

    Twice the speed limit?

I would certainly appeal, but I would say your best hope is getting the ban reduced, not removed.

Sorry mate but you being out of work or strapped for cash excuse aint going to cut it when some poor sods face is on your bumper and your talking to their parents.

Pay the fine - and obey the speed limit signs. You have only yourself to blame

As for getting a solicitor...well they are there to protect the wicked arent they. Move on. That license you got is subject to ROTR - Being lost is NO excuse to drive like a maniac (which twice the speed limit equates to)

did it make sense to speed and burn up the little you had, rather than slow down to save petrol to get you to a station
