a mate of mine is giving me a 3gs 16gb for parts basically

its all intact powers up etc but shows the connect to itunes page ,when he connected it to itunes it said imei failure or not recognised not sure what he said now so basically it wouldnt work for him he tried getting o2 to repair it and no joy and was advised it would be easier to claim for a new one thru his insurance

so am i right in thinking this is really only any use for parts ? digitizer lcd and battery along with the case any help appreciated

Sounds like the IMEI is blocked. Is it stolen or was it reported lost?

afaik you can change the imei, if so, you don't need to scrap it and you can use it

reported lost but the issue was there with the phone 2 weeks before the loss was reported

he had the phone from new its 1 year old on 02 network and is most definitely not stolen know the guy well and he had no trouble getting the replacement on insurance

going through insurance used to be they way people did things to make a quick buck and it worked until they twigged it
now when you claim via insurance the phone is blacklisted full stop
its illegal to change the IEMI

Chainging IMEI is illegal but sure if ya want to use the phone then just change it. If not then just sell it for parts.
