OP is interested in golf breaks, which obviously would mean accomodation & golf, googling individual clubs wouldn't be much good. Hardly a pointless thread if people can recommend websites or specific deals, might interest lots of people.

OP try www.yourgolftravel.com they are UK based but offer very good irish deals, I've mentioned it before in another post.

a slight bit less pointless than your post

    op,are you based in Dublin?
How far are you prepared to travel?
    Price range?
The approx hcp of your group?(might rule out a few beasts)
Just golf or a bit of.............?

    My suggestions,
    Kilkenny (Gowran.Kilkenny GC)
    Carlow (Carlow gc,Mount Wolseley)
    I don't get out much

oh and imo i think Waterford is a no no,Waterford Castle and Faitleg?? are brutal which leaves you with not much choice

i'm organising a Ryder cup long w-end next year so am interested in anyone's opinion,i'm thinking Cork in terms of nightlife, don't know much about the courses close to the city
was in Wales last year and while it was great i wouldn't go again unless i was in corporate hospitality, when it came to the climax you could see feck all

Bit of a sweeping statement about Waterford (I would be biased towards my home county) as there are 10 courses in the county and if you dont like 2 of them you shouldn't slag of the county. I am a member in Waterford Castle and it's a great course, it does need money spent on it but it's not owned by the members so we struggle to get things done, however for a weekend away the novelty of the ferry crossing would be a great treat for the OP, also Faithlegg again is not member owned but is a lovely course. As for the other 8 course here in Waterford I would say Williamstown & Dunmore East would be the lesser ones but grand if you're on a budget, Waterford Golf Club & Tramore are great clubs and the 3 Dungarvan clubs are super courses.

if that's my opinion what do want me to do,i've played them all,yes i like Tramore and Waterford but at my age i don't get excited about going on a ferry,my ten year old does though so each to their own
    i stand by my comment,sorry

mate if looking for cork clubs, I'm your man, live down here and play them all.

Personally, here's my opinion, need any info give me a shout:
Fota Island is overrated and overpriced. Great course but not worth price.
Castlemartyr, great track I'd pencil this one in on your trip.
Blarney, not great but if u get if for €25 worth a look.
Water Rock, pay as you play, some nice holes, but a little short for some.
Cork, cracker of a course, but expensive. Have dinner in clubhouse. My god!
Douglas, avoid, most boring up and down repeating rubbish course.
Mahon, not great I'd steer clear.
Lee Valley, nice course but the greens are ridiculous. The slopes are cruel and where they put the pin positions all the time is stupid.
Cobh, no clubhouse but I like the course. Like Castlemartyr. Great track, water, wind etc very good challenge. Great greens as well.
Kinsale, Nice track with some great holes. About 20mins drive from the city. Worth a peek.
Old Head of Kinsale, stunning 10holes perhaps and the rest are ordinary. Price will dictate whether its worth a trip.

If willing travel a bit outside the city there are others like Bandon, Macroom, Mallow, Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Charleville, Bantry Bay.

If you read my comment you would see my main point is that you were saying not to go to Waterford, based on your opinion of two golf clubs in the county, surely with eight other clubs in the county that was very unfair, no probs if you dont like the Castle or Faithlegg but you basically slagged off the whole county
