Career Break and PRSI

I work for a small private organisation, and am about to try and persuade them to give me a 6 month career break :). Is it possible to pay PRSI on a "voluntary" basis. I don't want to be in a situation where the company closes, and I end up not having enough contributions in "the relevant year" to get Job seekers benefit. I know that if you are out on maternity, carers or parental leave your PRSI record continues to be credited. Can anyone advise?
