    Hi All.

I hope you can help sort my problem out.

My car had been sitting in the snow for the about a week just before xmas. I went to start it and it started straight away then died within seconds i tried it a few more time and the same thing happened. I tried pressing the accelaration but it makes no differance.

I will chug for a bout 3 second reach about 1000 rpm then die and let of a slight backfire. If i pump the accelarator before starting it will get to 2000 rpms and die.

I have been away till this week and had someone look at it while i was away and he said it may be the coil pack. Does this sound right to you lads. There was 2 week old spark plugs, air filter and anitfreeze in it before this happened so i can rule them out

It does sound something else than coil issue. Even if the car would run at 3 cylinders, it should still start ok.

If the coil pack is not the problem is there anything else you could suggest that may cause this problem.

    Thanks

It Actually Could be something as simple as being flooded. Are you sure it start for like 3 seconds??? If it is you can cancel it being flooded.
Did anybody start the engine for any reason and turn it straight back off again once it started??

Did you move it out of anybody's way when it was cold, as in from the driveway to just outside or visa versa?? The engine gets flooded if its started when the engines cold and turned off again rite away.

it does start for a few seconds.

it was started and left to run for about 15 min's after about 2 days siiting in the snow other than that not started again or moved and its not the battery as the volt gauge reads correct and the batt was less than 1 month old:(

It could be fuel pump as well. Cold engine needs rich fuel mixture. The pump might be still working but not producing enough pressure, the fuel mixture gets too lean and the engine cuts out. That would also explain backfiring. Any decent garage should be able to test that in minutes.

    Hi Lads,

Just an update....the fault in the car was that during the snow and bad weather a little fkr of a mouse decided that my engine would be a good place to take shelter and while in there decided to have a little munch on my wiring.

The wires connected to the coil pack has now been reconnected and car is running fine
