    Hi Guys,

I've just been handed a netbook running XP to which the user has forgotten the password.

I've tried running a USB bootable version of <snip - please read the charter about crackz etc. > but with no joy.

Ideally I'd like to keep the user accounts intact so would like to copy the SAM from the netbook to my local desktop where I can use the larger Rainbow tables.

Alternatively, I would be happy to reset the user accounts/passwords. Is there a linux live disro that will just reset the password?

Thanks in advance for any advance..

P.S. The reason i'm asking is that I only have mobile net at the moment and it's painfully slow for browsing the web to find a suitable guide, cheers!

NTPasswd is the only legitimately free tool that regularly comes up on here - I've not yet experienced any problems using it. You should be able to make a USB drive bootable using the ISO image - something like the HP Disk Storage Formatting Tool should do the trick, for example.

From there it's just a case of booting from the USB drive and following the on-screen prompts.

Perfect, I knew there was some easy way to do it.

I had the password reset within 5 mins of file being downloaded..perfect!

    Thanks for that.
