    Hello All,

Have a 2008 S-Max with 21K miles on it. Due (ish) 2nd service and looking to see if any anyone has any recommendations for Ford service garages based on good/bad experiences? Ideally Dublin area.

On same topic - over last few months the 2.0 diesel is getting a little rough and wondering will a good oil service fix this. Haven't had a diesel prior to this and know they are rough at best of times :) but wanted to see if it could be anything more than just needing a service.

    Thanks for any help

    Paddy

Can't offer a recommendation for you.

But about the roughness, is the idle as normal ? Is the oil level above minimum ?

If you want to stay with main dealers I'd go for either Canavan's on the North Side or Tallaght Ford on the Southside. We use them both regulaly without issue.

Afraid I can't help with your other query, except to be a smart ar$e and ask - was the Ford 2.0Tdci ever smooth?? :-)

The lads in MKW motord baldonnel industrial est are excellent.

Consistently fix cars that many mechanics including main dealers struggle with.

Ask for Mark or Keith 4595266

I have nothing to do with the business other than being a satisfied and impressed customer.

    Thanks all...

Haven't touched the oil but regularly check it and hasn't moved much at all on the dipstick - other car is a GTI so well used to topping up the oil and give the SMax a complimentary check each time too:D

Yeah, engine was never smoothest - its rough on idle and sometimes driving; did some googling and got a few results saying this should be picked up and be OK after service. TBH its not much different to the usual rough diesel noise but I just thought all sounded that way - just that mine seems to have brought it on in last few months; maybe I am listening too hard

Pricing seems to be standard €245 from most Ford garages - gonna stay with the main dealers as its still in warranty (3 year UK as I imported in early 2009).

I've used Tallaght Ford once based on recommendations. They left the bonnet open, the safety catch caught it on the M50, and they failed to secure the plastic shroud that covers the engine. That was disappointing as I went out of my way to use them. However, Ralph in servicing is very personable and they are open to a bit of haggling on the service price. I'll be giving them one more chance.

Hehe, not if it's the same as the aul' 1.8 Diesel lump found in Fords since time immemorial.
After a few thousand k's they always seem to idle a bit on the rough side and definitely have a rasp to them when revving up.
I always think "ooh, she sounds a bit rough, time for an oil change" only to find it sounds exactly the same as before.
And be advised to see a good sized cloud of smoke on startup.
Oil consumption however should be no more than half a litre over a few thousand k's, for all it's smoking and roughness it's usually not too bad on oil.
Had VW's before that would drink a litre a week because the engine in them went to sh*t at 150k km. But that was along time ago...
Other than that the Ford oil burner is pretty bombproof.
Have abused a few of them over hundreds of thousands of kilometers (from a 1986 1.6l Escort diesel bread van to my current Cmax) and the last thing to survive on them was the engine.
Especially true for the Escort that ended up half buried under a motorway barrier, whole front end stoved in, but the engine still started and lived on in someone else's car.

No, it's a Peugeot/Citroen HDi engine in disguise.

I think the 1.6 is the Peugeot/Citroen engine.
The 2.0 is still a Ford unit as far as I can make out.

But it's quite a maze of engines...

There is no 1.6 in the S-Max, and the 2.0 is the HDi according to your own link to wikipedia.
