Parnell Street Building/House

Does anyone know what the story is with the house/building on the end of Parnell Street that looks like it was bombed or something?

I've seen a few people take photos of it before, but not sure if it has any significant history behind it.

It looks like it might have been a house at some stage. Even though half of the building has been destroyed, there are still some windows and even net curtains remaining.

It's at the end of Parnell Street a bit further down than Cineworld, near an entrance into Capel Street, and is opposite two antique stores.

Much of the west side of Parnell Street is modern but pockets of older buildings can still be found, although their condition leaves much to be desired. Most noticeably, is the section of the street at the junction with Capel Street and Ryders Row. However some of the last remaining Georgians have recently fallen foul of the wrecking ball.



The properties, Nos. 3, 4 and 5 and a derelict site at No.6 bounding onto Jervis Lane have been partially demolished having fallen into dereliction over a period of years. A site notice is in place for a proposed boutique hotel which incorporates a restored No 3 (which is a protected structure). The application hasnt been posted online yet, so no details.

It appears that DCC are at least engaged in trying to preserve what is left of the buildings (in an ACA after all) and ensuring the best outcome for the site.

Opposite, the large site at Ryders Row continues to rot and decay. A blight at the top end of Parnell Street

Yep that's the one I was talking about, although if you look at it from the other side, you can see much more of the damage. So it's just an old Georgian building that has been left to decay for several years? Looks like it was bombed during a war.
