    Can anyone recommend some short stories that would be suitable for a first year english class who are quite enthusiastic and able.

    Liam O'Flaherty's "The Sniper" is great, a twist that they'll enjoy and excellent examples of descriptive writing.

    I also really like Araby, never taught it to students though
