    Hi Everyone

I am picking up my new car on Saturday next from Murphy & Gunn. Anything I need to do with the dealer regarding warranty etc. Havent bought a new private car in years (used to have company cars and after that I went for bangernomics models).
Any advice would be appreciated - just feels like I'm going to forget something!

When collecting on a Saturday you should wear beige shoes, to match the salesman's, as has been the custom for many a year. If you see that he has failed to wear this colour, you should enquire why he is not observing this tradition.

Moreover, do not forget to bow to all staff members, in order to show your appreciation. Lowest bow reserved for the manager/owner, with the highest bow kept for the receptionist.

Following these simple guidelines will ensure a successful collection of your new car.

Presume you have the insurance set up in advance with the reg number.

Also buy a copy of the best of dire straits to activate the cd player

Best of luck with the new wheels

He should get you to sign the warranty part of the service book, they stamp it. Should also go through a hand over sheet with you.

Make sure everything works before leaving the dealership - especially the NAV if you specified it.

If the car has been registered already today, get the last 6 digits of the chassis number and do the tax on-line so you can bring the disc. Otherwise, get a copy of the RF100 for taxing.

+1 And do a proper exterior inspection, it can be surprising what scratches and bumps suddenly happen just after you leave the dealership.

+100 on the snow socks or chains, stock bimmers no like snow (due on Saturday I believe).

+2 - DO a FULL INSPECTION - don't be embarrassed to spend 45 minutes or more doing this.

Here is a useful checklist that you should print out and bring with you. Bring a copy for the dealer too.

This list might seem like overkill, but doing a full inspection like this will often turn up any other issues you might miss.
Be thorough - you are spending a lot of hard earned money!

Remember that once you have paid in full and leave the dealers carpark you are less likely to have issues resolved.

Many thanks for the helpful replies - exactly what I was looking for, with the exception of daRobots contribution!

nab a bmw jacket off them, since you are leaving a lump of about 50 grand cash with them, if they do not give you a bmw coat or umbrella or something to send you on your merry way, then the dealer is an asshole.
