    It's prettt-tty, pretty, pretty good!

Was surprised by this.. I hate Seinfield so I assumed that I would hate this as well... maybe it's the absence of Jerry Seinfield himself, but I thought this was good.. The humour all seems to be based mostly around the awkward situations that Larry creates for himself, but I saw all of series 7 and enjoyed it.

Yea,totally agree about seinfeld, supposed to be the best comedy in the world, see it even being name checked by linehan and matthews over christmas, never got it and even that stupid jazzy dum dum at the start and end of every scene makes me cringe,as for little britain, what was the hysteria about there. But curbs is just sheer genius, who else but sanders would get away in america with beloved c**t instead of aunt in her death notice.

It's certainly a lot more risqué than other comedies.. amongst the "capers" that befall Larry are:
    - trying to make himself unattractive so that his girlfriend will dump him.. (after he finds out that she has cancer)
    - trying to dump a girl he asked out after he sees she is in a wheelchair...
    - leaves his friend minding a mental patient, and the friend ends up having sex with her..

It's similar to Extras in this, in that it tackles taboo issues without being afraid of the PC backlash. It is also similar in that there are recurring hollywood stars that appear in the show as skewed versions of themselves.. like Christian Slater and Ted Danson..

I've seen pretty much two of the later series, give or take a few episodes, so I like it based on those.. I'm not sure if the simplistic format of .. Larry gets into trouble, Larry gets out of trouble ... would get boring.. but it's certainly worth a watch..

And the best of all, there is no script.

Seinfeld was brilliant. It had great characters, dialogue, storylines and was completely fearless (they did 22 minutes on masturbation, the Chinese Restaurant episode ,the gay episode etc.) long before any other sitcom ever touched upon subjects or situations like them.I remember watching one episode in isolation when I was younger and not being that impressed, I think it helps to watch a couple of episodes to get into the swing of it. LD's influence on Seinfeld was massive and I would argue it's two weakest seasons were the ones where he was gone (Season 8 & 9). I don't know why you're mentioning some hackneyed sketch show in the same breath as Seinfeld.

Wrong Larry, dude! The restaurant scene with the Tourette's chef is one of the best endings to an episode in comedy history.

Yep Seinfield was one on of the best comides over written.Love or hate him if there was no jerry there would be no seinfield and if there was no Larry, seinfield wouldnt be what it is today.

Back to curb I think its good but its not like I be going back to watch it on the fly,its nearly hard to watch if that makes any sence. The seinfield reunion where the best episodes by the way.

Also how did they nominated for an award for best written show when theres no script?Surely thats taking the pis$

    maybe because
Lawrence Eugene "Larry" David (born July 2, 1947) is an American actor, writer, comedian, and producer. In 1989, he teamed up with Jerry Seinfeld to co-create the television series Seinfeld, where he also acted as head writer and executive producer. In 1999, he created the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, a partially improvised sitcom in which he stars as a fictionalized version of himself.

So would possibly make the assumption (as I did), that if you didnt like his work on Seinfield, then you wouldnt like his work on Curb..... In the same way that I like Ricky Gervais' The Office, and similarly I like his other work..

    Larry: f**K huuuuggghhhhhh f*********ck huuuuugggghhh

    Larry: Alright, let's roll!
Rabbi: What? "Let's roll"? What did you say?
    Larry: What?
Rabbi: You knew my brother-in-law died on September 11th! How dare you say something like that!
Larry: With all due respect, wasn't that just a coincidence?
    Rabbi: Oh, what the...
Larry: Alright, poor choice of words...
Rabbi: What the hell kind of a...
    Larry: Alright, that's long gone...
Rabbi: You know, I don't wanna do this. Forget it. Forget it.
Larry: Oh, I didn't know, I didn't know that if you, that if you, you died UPTOWN on 9/11 that it was, that it was part of it, uh... the tragedy.

larry gives them the scenario and they work from there i think. it must be difficult but it seems to work. they do multiple takes and use which one works best.

One of my favourite episodes is where Larry is complaining about the "blacks" in the hospital.

Funkhauser's joke to jerry was one of the funnest things ive seen in years.

Yeah, certain things are scripted but it's just concepts and the cast ad libs from there.

every time i try opening something that's been packaged in plastic i laugh my head off at larry's attempt to open the gps packaging, stabbing it repeatedly with the knife, screaming at it and losing.

there are so many good lines from the kamakazi bingo episode...

    suicide email... suicide blackberry(2 classics)!
    chicken teriyaki boy!

but my favourite bit is where yoshi is in the hospital and larry is talking to his "brother in law" about how he insulted him about his father not been a kamakazi pilot. larry is still disagreeing that he is and says something along the lines "oh i think he decided to go home after he thought this is ****ing insane"(at the same time doing the grazing motion of the ship)! i wet myself at this.

Cant wait for new episodes this year. I presume it'll start in September like last season.

Not too much information about it at the moment, came across this on the Ricky Gervais blog, Ricky and Larry during a dinner party scene, dinner parties have been a great source for some classic "Curb" moments:D

This is pretty much the only current american sitcom that i really like. It is a funny show. Even if the music does my head in.

I haven't seen a lot of them. Anyone see the episode where the main character actually steals flowers from a remembrance plaque (of his friends mother) to give to his wife or something? Jesus it was creepy & very funny.

Leon!!!! :D So glad he's not gone from the show.

Michael J Fox looks really unwell, though. :(

Absolutely love this show. Favourite episode is probably the "Car Pool Lane".

Also, anything with Leon "Ejac-a-lit" Black, brilliant character... the ad-libbed dialogue that happened between Larry and Leon provided some of the most memorable moments in the show.

Agreed. My favourite too. Although there's loads of close seconds particularly in the last series with Danny Duberstein and Wendy Wheelchair. Jesus, it really is genius stuff just thinking about it now...:D

But that is the true genius of the writing. It is so good and so strong that they manage to do not just a story but usually a fairly complex story with two or three distinct strands which come together perfectly in the final scene. Whilst it may not have a script, it's a masterclass in television writing.

My favorite tv show of all time. I love Larry's scenes with Richard Lewis. One of the funniest scenes is when Larry asks the lady working on the Seinfeld reunion show how's her daughters p***y and the look on Jerry Seinfeld's face is priceless.

I'm thrilled to see one of my favourite actors ever Michael J Fox in it.
