Are they speed cameras?

Hey all.

Feel a bit daft asking, but there's a plethora of overhead electronic message boards over the M50 and M1, and they've camera's attached to them. Are these speed cameras?

No. But can be used to calculate speed, but they are not active speed cameras.

There was a proposal to fit some though ~ I've not kept a pace with this

I think they are mainly for traffic monitoring...... but I think the Gardai wanted registration plate readers added - to assist them in tracking stolen cars (makes sense in my opinion)

Do some Of these on the m50 not have the road markings too? I presume these are active speed cameras no?

Ditto for me, I never do any crazy speed but whenever I see them and I'm over the limit at all, I do tend to worry!
