Anyone know where the fuse for the cigarette lighter is on a 2006 vw golf tdi? Neither the one in the dash or the boot are working. I can't afford to go to a dealer, so it's a DIY job or a do without. Anyway familiar with the fuses in a Golf?

A not so straight forward google found:

Check F42 in the fuse box to see if that is blown.

    Only going off that link.

Since I bought my 2007 VW Golf 1.9 TDi (BXE) the fag lighter has never worked. I opened the fuse box inside the drivers side door today and consulted the owners manual.

There should be a 20amp fuse in F42 as mentioned before in this thread by bbk. But there is no fuse present in slot F42 in my fuse box. I removed a 20amp fuse from another slot in my fuse box and tried unsuccessfully to insert it into F42 (It went in but there was no 'catch' like I felt when I returned that fuse to its original location).

I inspected the F42 slot closer while comparing it to a slot in the fuse box that has a fuse in it.

I wanted to know why the 20 amp fuse would not slot into F42 and discovered that everywhere in the fuse box that has a fuse present, when you shine a torch in the slot where the fuse goes there is a kind of metallic 'contact' embedded in the slot that the fuse contacts slip into, but of course in F42 this metallic 'contact' is not in the slot, therefore there is nothing to hold a fuse in place.

    My questions are:

    Is this normal?

    What is this metallic 'contact'?

How do I sort out the F42 slot so I can get a 20amp fuse in there?

And do you think this is the problem with the fag lighter (p.s. the socket in the boot has never worked either)?
