I don't know what it is with magpies and foxes but I hardly ever see a fox without seeing a magpie. When calling foxes you often here the mags begin to chatter when a fox is moving through the wood. I know a keeper once said to me when he has birds to wood in late summer he eases of the magpies as they will kick up such a racket if a fox is in the cover they will warn the gamebirds of his presence.

    They are strange critters ;)

Foxes are Hyenas and magpies are Vultures.

Just a different country is all

yep magpies and if there are any around jays especially will warn you of anything predatory sneaking about if you sit still you can often see what it is could be a fox /cat/stoat that's what the magpie chatter on a u caller is basically mobbing and they all like to join in :D
song birds too will do it especially to an owl, if it shows its face

As Cantona once said: "Ze seaguls, zay follow ze trawler because zay know that fish will be thrown in"

That was after he did the judo kick to a fan in the crowd mind....

Before i start giving what i think is a fairly good answer,i just want to say that it might NOT be true but i think it was the warrener who said that a magpie or 2 will often follow a fox and dip and dive at him to get him off the magpies territory.
ive noticed the crafty feckers meself when i was out with the shotty but im still to get me 1st red dog.every evenin that im out i alwayshave me ears to the sky for a magpie chatterin..4nyways hope me answer might shed a bit of light on the subject

Its like a pictoral description of what my hangovers are like, two magpies just picking at me. A good poll to run here is to ask which one would you drop first... the mag or charlie?
