Mondeo handbrake problem.

Just been called out by security to the hospital car park where I found our 02 Mondeo had rolled down a slope into the side of another car.
As I was distracted and tired when I parked ( we have 2 sick kids in the hospital) , I assumed I had forgotten to apply the handbrake.
However, on checking the handbrake was pulled almost up to the top notch.
handbrake is still working , but requires a really strong tug right to the top then just holds.
Anyone else had the hand brake on a Mondeo suddenly fail?

Friend of mine has one and doesn't use the handbrake if it's anyway cold. Has had awful trouble over the cold spell with it freezing on. Any trouble with yours over the cold spell? Cable might need to be adjusted or replaced.

Not much use to you now, but best leave the car in a high gear when your parking for a little extra security. Get handbrake cable tensioned as soon as possible, I usually get it done during servicing.

Heard loads of them are failing in the cold. When its freezing outside leave it in first or reverse gear with the wheels towards the kerb so it won't get far and the handbrake down.

I'd get your one checked if its already failed though.

My wife usually drives the car and had not had any problems. She always leaves it in gear as well... ( a habit I will now aquire, stable door, horse etc:o)

You mean a low gear, surely?

There was a recall on the mondeo handbrake back in 04 due to problems with it slipping. They replaced the automatic adjusters with manual ones. Could be worth checking your reg with Ford to see if it was done.
