Karen Millen dress - specialist dry clean only

I've got a Karen Millen dress that says "specialist dry clean only" and I'm afraid of getting it cleaned! I've worn it a few times, no more than a few hours each time so I've just let it air as it wasn't really dirty. I wore it at the weekend though, and it needs a clean at this stage but I've had a few friends who've had dry-clean disasters with similarly made dresses lately.

It's a black silk dress - the silk layer is the chiffon type which is what I'm worried about shrinking (exactly what has happened my friends' dresses). It has a bead and stone bib/necklace which threads in, so I just took this off and snipped the threads where it was attached. Does anyone know of specialist dry cleaners in Cork as I don't want to chance the places where I live after both my friends' disasters! I love this dress too much and it's from 2 years ago (only fitted in to it properly lately!) so there's no way of replacing it.

I hear Craft Cleaners on Baggot St in Dublin are the best for this type of thing. Sorry, don't know of any in Cork but in case you ever go to Dublin.

Thanks Pythia, I don't end up in Dublin too often though. I might ring Brown Thomas in the morning and see if there's anywhere they recommend.

I was going to suggest Craft as well until you mentioned Cork - they do charge 25/30 for a dress tho. Calling BT is a good idea, or failing that try a couple of the wedding dress shops (Craft do a lot of bridal wear, based on what I see hanging up in there as I pass by) and see who they recommend.

Think there's a place in Douglas that sends dresses to a specialist place in Macroom- it's a few years ago, but I had my wedding dress done there- and it turned out perfectly. If you go to any dry cleaners they should be able to advise you where to go with it, I would have thought.

I had a similar problem with a dress and was advised to go to Craft cleaners in Kilmacud (I live in Ballinteer). They completely destroyed my dress and refused to compensate me unless I could produce the receipt for the dress.
Funny enough, I bought a dress a year later in a shop in town, and the lady who sold it to me warned me not to get it cleaned in Craft Kilmacud!

I would have thought that too, but both of my friends' dresses being shrunk has me completely paranoid, especially because they were also silk chiffon top layers too.

I think the place I went to is in Douglas shopping centre-but they sent it on to someone in Macroom.

I've often had things ruined in dry cleaners too, it's very hard to find a good one.
