hey -just noticed my whirlppol washer is taking in 'kids' socks in to the outer drum and drain

the door seal seems properly attached to front panel and outer drum-and machine appears to be working normally besides this

-there seems to be a big enough gap between the two drums for the socks to pass through??

    any ideas

Best not to put stuff like that loose in the machine, put them into a "sock bag".

what happens is that the inner drum ,the polished steel one with perforations in it , has a lip that nearly reaches the rubber door seal - over time and use and with the help of centrifugal force , the lip on the drum moves backward while spinning on high speed (think of a potters wheel spinning ) so the gap gets bigger over time allowing things like socks to pass thru ,where when it was new the gap wasnt as big and nothing got thru -

if you feel competant enough you could take a hammer and piece of timber to it ,gentle hammer it back out working slowly round the drum ,but it will keep happening
