It probably requires more resources than the likes of Commerce/Arts where you just sit there watching a Powerpoint presentation before typing out an essay in Word.

Sure there might be a lack of science graduates these days, meaning the course should actually be incentivised, but you can't expect the government to factor these things in, can you?

Raw materials maybe, what with all the materials and hardware that're used in the labs and the like.

I realise that a slight increase in the fee to account for more resources etc, but an extra 4grand, you must be off yer face. In UCD theres no difference between the fees for science and other course so it might leave it for this one. First time i saw it i thought that it might have been a mistake on the websites part but alas it was never meant to be

I thought that all the fees were standardised for EU people, otherwise the medicine fees would be astronomical.

Don't bank on Science getting you a job at all, Ireland has an awful lot of science graduates and the banks aren't soaking up the numbers they used to during the boom years (I always thought the pressure for more science graduates was from IBEC wanting the government to drive down the wages*).
If employment is a concern take a look at the health related courses eg Radiology the starting wages will be far far superior or computers which has seen considerable investment by multinationals in recent years into ireland unlike the pharma which has been cut or streamlined,

Also if your paying take a look at the publishing record of the department you want to end up in.

    * this website has the figure at 54% in science for 2009 and I'm suprised its that high
