A number of months back on the advice of a pal I purchased a tub of 2:1:1 Recovery formula ( containing 35g Protein, 70g Fast Carbs, 16g BCAA's and 23g Essential Amino Acids ).. I've only used it a couple of times but now that Im hoping to up my training for Barcelona and have it taking up room in my cupboard Im looking for pointers in relation to its use..

    (1) Do many posters use it...
    (2) If so should I take it after every session or just after say an LSR ( I know fellow runners who do both )
    (3) Most importantly is it of any use

    Tks in advance...

was at a seminar recently, although more to do with cycling,
there was a nutrionist there who dealt with int/elite athletes,
she recomended 'choclate milk shake' as a recovery drink,
just as effective and a good bit cheaper.

There are a few people on here who swear by the Mars drinks as a recovery drink.

I used a couple of different recovery drinks last year and found that either High-5 or PowerBar, both chocolate flavoured, made with milk were the best and tasted great. I currently have the SIS Rego recovery powder, also chocolate flavoured, and I can't wait to be rid of it as it tastes awful in comparison, very synthetic.

I've tried the Mars drink but came back to chocolate soya milk as I prefer the taste, not that much difference between them when you look at the nutritional info.

Was at a Lucozade sponsored workshop and some sort of fruit milkshake was recommend. Once it contained milk you cannot really go wrong as milk seems to have the correct ratio between carbs and protein for an immediate recovery drink.

My favourite recovery drink is slim fast. I buy the powder in the supermarket when they have a special offer and it always lasts me until the next special offer.

I only use it after a long run or a particularly hard session, not after every run.

Blend together supermilk, a banana and a tea spoon of nutella . I rediscovered the joys of this today.

I'm still using Provon Revive until my current stash is gone - 1 box to go. It tastes pretty nice as I hate chocolatey things - i've also heard good things about Endurox Rx4. Only use it after long runs, sessions and for hangovers.

+1 I'm lactose intolerant so any non-dairy/soya options?

You can get hemp protein recovery products I think. There is debate about the bio-availability of non-whey proteins but then again it could all be spin from the dairy industry.

One can purchase Powerbar and Generation UCAN from online retailers, excellent products for endurance athletes.

i throw a banana, some milk or jogurt and a spoonful of peanut butter into a blender. makes a delicious recovery drink.

also chocolate milk, but i prefer to make my own rather than buy pre-finished sugary ones. caotina has 75% cocoa and no added sugar, tastes fantastic and real "chocolate-y".

A small bit of this and a larger bit of this mixed with water.

    Lovely!
