Been after this chap for some time now.he's been terrorising the local chickens, cat and dogs.Took the new lightforce scope mount lamp out to try and it works a treat. It was around 6oc i was about to go home i was just having one last look and there he was.Couldn't get a shot off so started to call when i lit him up again he had moved to the other side of the field he wasn't lamp shy at all just lay there(120yds).
He was low to the ground but i had a clear shot at his head.so i stuck the crosshair right between his eyes.Bang Fecken missed i couldn't beleave it scope was of zero could see the bullet hit.so now i don't know what to do.Do i go back tonight or leave it for a few days.Cheers lads all advice welcome.

cz 22wmr with remmi poly tip always go for the head shot and only shoot @ under 150yds.

If he's not actively killing, leave him a few weeks.

if you were taking the shot at 120 yards, maybe you should have accounted for bullet drop. according to the chart below if you 0 it at 100 yards it will drop about 2" at 120. could have been further than you taught and if you could only see the head it might of hit the ground just infront of him

the grey line been the .22wmr vmax

The chances are that fox will never come to the lamp or call again.
    Once bitten twice shy.

That's true. Giving him a break lets him have time to forget the memory, using a coloured filter on the lamp next time (like amber), may give enough time for a good shot. It's those two seconds of the fox wondering "That looks familiar, uh-.." Bang.

i alway zero an inch high at 100
that way theres no need for thinking of drop
that inch high is better than an inch low in my opinion
most foxes ya shoot will be 100 yards or further so the inch will be reduced
if your an inch high at 100 yal be bang on at 150

Interesting chart there, amazed at the difference between the .22WMR and the .17HMR, albeit with diff bullet weights
