Ipod Not Being Recognised

Basically my Ipod isn't being recognised. The power is gone and it won't even charge so it hasn't been working for around 2 weeks now. Very annnoying as I use it quite a bit. I've tried via my PC, my Xbox, different chargers, etc. and nothing works. About two weeks ago, at the start of the issue, the computer said that my Ipod "needs to be reformatted" when I hooked it up to the PC and to uninstall Itunes. I did this, tried re-installing with the CD and also downloaded the latest Itunes version and still nothing. Now, whenever I connect it to anything, it doesn't even give an error message. Nothing happens. I've also tried reseting it to no avail.

Can somebody provide me with anything that I could do that would rectify this problem? [I'm pretty sure the Ipod itself isn't actually permanently "broke" so speak...] Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as not having a working Ipod is a severe issue for me. Cheers.

Ok, it turns out I didn't successfully "reformat my Ipod to work with Itunes". When I'm asked "would I like to do this now?" and I click "yes", Itune opens up but with no other prompts. Does anyone know how to reformat the Ipod? Again, any advice appreciated.

When you connect the ipod to itunes, if you click on the ipod icon you will see then on the left a screen with your ipod details and you will have an option that says restore.

My Ipod isn't getting recognised though, hence no Ipod details appear on the left-hand side. Cheers anyway.

When you plug into a wall charger ensure you leave it plugged in for a good while... It may not register that it's charging for several minutes.

ive had it plugged into the usb on the pc for the entire day and no joy. ive tried to reset it and no joy, think it may be brown bread. (though i might have possibly been faulty from day one)

Mine is an Ipod Classic. It's a wierd issue because... like, sometimes I plug it in and it will charge for me after a while so I don't think the Ipod is actually broken. But it hasn't been recognised in weeks so adding new albums, etc. is a non-runner which is pretty annoying. I'm thinking the issue may "possibly" be solved in Ipod preferences but not sure how exactly... uggggh.

    Heh... no worries.

Plugged it into my computer again just there, got a message saying my Ipod might be corrupt and to "restore" it. Clicked on the restore button, got an error message saying "error: Ipod cannot be restored...bla bla bla..."

Shut down the PC and when I started it up again low and behold it recognised it. Nice one. I'm 99% certain I shut it down previously to no avail though... strange.

@Straycat - give that a go and see if it works for you.
